§ 01 · Headline rate

One rate. Any hour. Any day.

Per engineer, with a 1-hour minimum. The same number at 2am, on a Sunday, on a bank holiday.

Per engineer · 1-hour minimum · no VAT

£95 /hour

Two engineers on-site for one hour is two billable hours. We never add an emergency surcharge or an out-of-hours premium.

§ 02 · Whole-hour billing

Whole hours, with a 10-minute buffer.

Each billable hour comes with a 10-minute buffer. Finish inside the buffer and you stay on the same hour. Cross it and you move into the next whole hour.

The clock is the engineer's GPS check-in to GPS check-out, recorded on the Visit. Each whole hour carries its own 10-minute buffer.

§ 03 · GPS-verified

The hour clock is the GPS clock.

Engineers check in by GPS on arrival and check out by GPS on departure. Those two timestamps are the only ones that count toward the hour.

  1. 01

    En-route

Live location visible on the Visit. Not billable — you don't pay for travel inside Manchester.

  2. 02

    GPS check-in

Engineer taps in at the site. Timestamp and coordinates are stamped on the Visit. The hour clock starts here.

  3. 03

    On-site

Photo updates and messaging through the Portal. Scope changes pause for explicit approval before extra work proceeds.

  4. 04

    GPS check-out

Engineer taps out. The hour clock stops, the whole-hour rule and 10-minute buffer apply, and the Visit hours are sealed.

§ 04 · No VAT

The quoted price is the price.

Smart Hands operates under the UK VAT threshold and is not VAT registered. The number on the estimate is the number on the invoice. No VAT is added at any stage.

▸ 1 engineer · 1 hour · £95.00 total

▸ 2 engineers · 1 hour · £190.00 total

§ 05 · Out-of-hours

Same rate at 2am as at 2pm.

No emergency surcharge. No out-of-hours uplift. No weekend or bank holiday premium. The rate is £95/hour whenever the work happens.

  • Weekday daytime, weekday overnight, weekend, bank holiday — one rate.
  • Urgent and same-day callouts charged at the standard rate. Available to onboarded clients with a signed MSA.
§ 06 · NTE caps

A cap on every Estimate.

Every Estimate carries a Not-To-Exceed limit. Work won't push past the NTE without your explicit approval — if the site turns out to need more time than expected, we stop and ask.

  • You see the NTE before you approve the Estimate. Nothing hidden.
  • If we hit the NTE on-site, the engineer messages you through the Portal. Approve more hours, or close out and re-scope.
  • Work that finishes under estimate is billed at the actual hours. Estimates are not floors.
§ 07 · Materials & incidentals

What else can appear on an invoice.

Beyond labour hours, three things may show as separate line items.

Materials Orders

Billed separately

Cables, patch leads, optics and consumables we source on your behalf. Quoted upfront, payable in full upfront, billed on their own line.

Parking & tolls

At cost, receipts on file

Site parking, tunnel and Clean Air Zone charges where applicable, passed through at cost. Receipts available on request.

Travel beyond Manchester

No charge in Manchester

Travel inside the Manchester area is included. Work outside is agreed in advance — never a surprise on the invoice.

For worked numbers across visit sizes, see Do the maths.

§ 08 · Payment & cancellation

Terms, in one place.

Net 7 from invoice. BACS only. Standard cancellation curve.

Dispute a line item via Work Order messaging in the Portal or through your account manager. Refunds and credit notes are issued where appropriate.

§ 09 · FAQs

Billing detail, in plain language.

What is the minimum charge?

One hour per engineer. A single-engineer visit is £95 minimum; a two-engineer visit is £190 minimum. The hour clock starts at GPS check-in and stops at GPS check-out.

How exactly does the 10-minute buffer work?

Every whole billable hour carries a 10-minute buffer. 1h 10min on-site is billed as 1 hour. 1h 11min crosses the buffer and is billed as 2 hours. The same rule applies on the next hour: 2h 10min is 2 hours, 2h 11min is 3 hours.

What happens if work exceeds the NTE limit on-site?

The engineer stops and messages you through the Portal. Additional work only proceeds with your explicit approval. You're never billed beyond the NTE without prior agreement.

Do you offer retainers or monthly accounts?

Yes — Lite (6h), Plus (12h) and Pro (18h), from £82/hour. Work is still invoiced per job but at the retainer rate, and usage inside the monthly allowance is automatically credited. See Retainers for tiers.
